BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Synergy –

Well let’s say that we’ve heard so many good things about this carrier that we sold our brand new never used Baby Bjorn carrier and we got this one instead. What a mistake that was. It is true that compare to the Baby Bjorn this carrier was very simple and looked comfortable at first glance but when the time for a test drive came I found out that sometimes you have to stick with your initial choice. I am 6.2 tall and weight around 200 pounds. My pants size is 34 and I had to extend the waist belt on the Ergo carrier to the end and I still felt uncofortable with the way it fell. So if you are planing to buy this carrier and you are man with pants size 34 or more please know that the waist belt will NOT FIT YOU. I don’t know why the manifacturer does not provide a little bit of slack on this belt but this is a major flaw in this carrier for me personally. If you are slim and fit well this is you carrier no doubt about it otherwise look for another option.

I never have time to write reviews but wanted to make sure I tell everyone about the horrible customer service I received from Ergo! I phoned the company to let them know my sleeping hood never worked properly and have seen newer ergo’s with properly made hoods and that I wondered what they could do for me?? I suggested re-sewing or shortening the straps…they said there was nothing they could/would do for me but sell me a new one! I got this ergo for a gift and they wanted me to produce a reciept!! I really like my ergo though it has never worked properly. I am extremely dissapointed with this service but not surprised as it is a Hawaii based company. Really lacking is basic customer service!!

I’ll admit that the Ergo is well made with high quality materials and it feels very sturdy. However, unless you are tall and slender like the models in their videos, I’m not sure this is the greatest product. I am neither slender, nor tall. I have a 32 inch waist, and the belt has to be as loose as possible to fit me (yes I know you can buy the waist extension; please, let me spend MORE money on this product). When I put my toddler in it, following the steps in the instructional DVD, she screamed the entire time. By the time I had everything cinched up despite her unhappiness, she was pressed so tightly against my back that she couldn’t move which made her oh so pleased with that situation. I tried several adjustments, but in the end put the Ergo away in disgust and put her in a Kelty backpacker. Another day I decided to try out the $25 infant insert with my 8 week old son. Not much more success there. No matter how much I tried to tug the front of the Ergo up, his head never felt supported, I had to keep my hand behind the insert to support his head; kind of negates the whole “hands-free” thing that Ergo claims. Also, did I mention that I am not tall or slender? I have wide shoulders, and after only a few minutes, my upper back was in agony because the chest strap (fastened behind my back in the front-carry position) was pulling my shoulder blades together. If I loosened it, then the shoulder straps started to slide off. Again, tried several adjustments, but to no avail, and once again shed the whole thing in disgust and just carried my son in my arms.
For what it’s worth, my wife likes it, and she is very petite, but she uses a Moby wrap more than anything for the youngest. For all the money we spent, I was expecting the end-all be-all of baby carriers, and was extremely disappointed. Now we have yet another baby carrier sitting in the closet. I’ll stick with the Bjorn or Snugli that I’ve used for all four of our kids.

The Ergo was as stated and pictured but it’s not exactly what I was hoping for in a baby carrier. I didn’t realize the baby couldn’t face out. That’s a negative. And it’s a little harder for one person to put the baby into the carrier than the instructions say. However, my son does ride comfortably in it and he’s fallen asleep in it. It does take a lot of the pressure off of your back versus other carriers. Overall, it’s worth the purchase.

I looked at several Ergo carriers before buying this one. All of the other ones I looked at had a zippered pocket on the front. This one does not have that. It does function great as a carrier, but I am very disappointed that this particular model doesn’t have what I thought was standard on all their carriers. The pocket on the other carriers is large enough for keys, phone, a diaper and some wipes–very convenient. The embroidery is not worth losing the pocket.
